Originally under Agriculture Department and later Animal Husbandry, Milk Production and Dairy Development Department.
Brought under Finance Department as a separate department through G.O.(Ms) No.370 dated 22.11.2019.
Cadre strength restructured to 323 posts through G.O.(Ms) No.55 dated 02.03.2026.

Conduct statutory audit of all Milk Co-operative Societies in the State.
Audit the three-tier milk co-operative system at federation, district union, and primary society levels.
Classify societies for audit with reference to milk procurement.
Exercise powers under Section 80 of the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Societies Act, 1983 and Rules 101, 102, and 103.
